  • Have you heard of The Cell cycle? It is our next science lesson this week!
  • OMG! I am looking forward to learning about the cell cycle! Tell me more about it!
  • To start, Interphase is where the cell cycle starts and it is where the cell is being prepared for cell division which is called the M phase/ cell division phase
  • And don't forget that the Interphase has three 'phases' which are G1 phase , S phase, and G2 phase.
  • Yes! As you said, there are three phases of Interphase... The G1 phase is the first one and it is basically where cell growth takes place.
  • The S phase is next and it is where DNA synthesis happens/ DNA replication
  • The G2 phase is simply preparation for the actual cell division.
  • Exactly! So in G2 phase the cell starts preparing and making key organelles for cell division such key organelles include Microtubule , centriole , and spindles for cell division.
  • Next up is the M phase/ Cell division which consists of Mitosis and Cytokinesis!
  • Did you know that Mitosis has four phases which are Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase , and lastly Telophase!
  • 1- Prophase is the longest phase where the nucleus condenses, chromosomes become visible, centriole moves to poles , and spindles begin to form.
  • 3-Anaphase is where sister chromatids separate and so chromosomes move towards opposite poles
  • And don't forget the fourth and the last phase which is Telophase, which is where the cell begins to divide into daughter cells, nuclear envelope reforms, chromosomes tangle into chromatin, and cell membrane begins to form
  • 2- Metaphase is the shortest phase where chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell.
