Storyboard Text

  • Māori traveled  from Polynesia an they set to discovered the great Pacific navigating by the ocean currents, winds and stars 
  • Lets build our village here
  • between 1200 and 1300 AD the first Māori people landed on New Zealand 
  • Together they built strong tribes all over New Zealand hutting Moa, Fishing, farming everyone had there part 
  • Māori did fight each other which involved hand-to-hand combat, with weapons designed to kill. Reasons for war could be practical, such as for land or resources, but could also be to increase mana or as revenge for insults.
  •  New Zealand was first spotted on December 13, 1642 by Dutch navigator Abel Tasman and explored by Captain James Cook in 1769.
  • despite some Māori leaders cautioning against it. On 6 February 1840, the Treaty of Waitangi/Te Tiriti o Waitangi was signed at Waitangi in the Bay of Islands.
