- In this scene, we see Romeo has snuck into the Capulets garden searching for Juliet:
- But, soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun
- Ay me!
- She speaks:O, speak again, bright angel! for thou art As glorious to this night, being o'er my head
- (most popular quote:) O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,And I'll no longer be a Capulet. Meaning: "Oh Romeo! Deny my father or if you dont, swear to love me and i will marry you."
- By a nameI know not how to tell thee who I am: My name, dear saint, is hateful to myself,Because it is an enemy to thee;Had I it written, I would tear the word
- What man art thou that thus bescreen'd in night So stumblest on my counsel?
- My ears have not yet drunk a hundred words of that tongue's utterance, yet I know the sound: art thou not Romeo and a Montague? (or are you not Romeo Montague?)
- Neither, fair saint, if either thee dislike (If it pleases you, i am not)
