  • Bananas were domesticated over 7,000 years ago. Wild bananas usually contain big, hard seeds and have a little amount of flesh. Modern bananas came from two wild varieties, Musa acuminata and Musa balbisiana, which had large, hard seeds.
  • Bananas have been selectively bred to have tiny, non-fertile seeds. These bananas have higher levels of Vitamin A. They are created using a technique that uses the existing banana DNA. They are seedless triploids that do not form mature seeds. The little black dots running through the middle of the banana are the immature seeds.
  • Consumers have raised questions and are averse to any health effects regarding the food supply. If you are eating a banana today, you are eating a clone.
  • Other consumers know that eating a genetically modified banana is inevitable so they continue their regular consumption of bananas.
  • GM banana project in Uganda was developed to fortify bananas with vitamin and mineral content to help mitigate the undernourishment and the diseases associated with it. Vitamin A and iron deficiencies are endemic in Uganda, affecting women and children.
  • Absolute control by corporations and domination of world production from GMO foods such as bananas.
