At the start of the Punic Wars Rome was a thriving Republic with a growing power that both threatened and was threatened by Carthage, leading to the Punic Wars.

At the start of the Punic Wars,Carthage was a large trading empire located in Northern Africa that was expanding their territory closer to the growing power of Rome. This scared the Roman leaders, so the Punic wars broke out.

The first Punic War was fought at sea, giving Rome a disadvantage, because they were land fighters and were not sea fighters, while Carthage were skilled sea fighters., but despite this, Rome still won by boarding the Carthaginian ships so that it was then turned into hand-to-hand combat.

In the second Punic War, the Carthaginian general Hannibal had the idea to go through Spain and over the Alps to attack Rome but ended up losing because the Romans weakened the Carthaginians by moving constantly.

In the last Punic War, the Roman armies attacked in Carthage and wiped it off the map with little difficulty, as they were weak from so many lost battles to Rome.

The lasting effect of the Punic Wars was: Rome gained all of Carthage’s territory in Spain and Africa, but there was also a lot of farmland that was destroyed or neglected because of the war.
