  • The Asthma Attack
  • Hello?
  • I’m so tired I can’t run anymore
  • Hello Jennifer, I have called you to let you know that your daughter Vicki was running in a long distance race and pushed herself too hard that she then had an asthma attack and fainted. She has now been rushed to hospital
  • Hhhhh! Oh no, I’m on my way to the hospital now, thankyou for letting me know!
  • OH NO! We need to call the Ambulance!
  • No problem
  • I can't breath!
  • I feel better now. I just have pain in my chest
  • Hello doctor, I got here as fast as I could, so what's wrong with Vicki?
  • OH MY! VICKI! How are you feeling ?
  • Vickie’s Oesophagus has restricted airflow which means she can’t breathe properly; this has got to do with the respiratory system
  • What's the respiratory System?
  • Thank you
  • I brought your Ventolin that you left at home
  • So...
  • Respiration (breathing) is the process by which your body obtains oxygen from the surrounding air. Cellular respiration is the process by which your cells produce ATP, a molecule that provides energy for chemical reactions.
  • Gas exchange is the primary function of the lungs to transport oxygen from inhaled air into the blood and carbon dioxide from the blood into exhaled air.
  • A disorder to the respiratory system that it needs to overcome is asthma which is the case with your daughter.
  • Respiratory System
  • The alveoli are the spaces between the lungs and the blood where oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged during the breathing in and out process. Breathing in oxygen from the air causes it to pass through the alveoli, into the blood and then to the tissues through out the body.
  • The main organ of the respiratory system is the lungs. Other respiratory organs include the nose, the trachea and the breathing muscles (the diaphragm and the intercostal muscles).
  • The primary function of the lungs is the gas exchange process known as respiration (or breathing). During respiration, oxygen from the incoming air enters the blood and carbon dioxide, by product of metabolism, exits the blood. Reduced lung function refers to the lungs' ability to exchange gases.
  • Cellular respiration is the process by which organisms combine oxygen with food molecules, diverting the chemical energy in these substances into life-sustaining activities while discarding carbon dioxide and water as waste products.
  • The lungs features are the bronchi, bronchioles and alveoli which are the main components of the lungs. The alveoli are microscopic blood vessel-lined sacks that exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide gas.
  • That's great! well thanks for letting me know about this
  • Are there treatments for this?
  • Of course there are treatments. There are Long-term control medications, such as inhaled corticosteroids, which are the most important asthma medications.Quick-relief inhalers contain a medication that acts quickly, such as albuterol. In this case the only thing we can do now is to give her Ventolin like usual.
  • Thank you doctor, I feel less stressed now! When will she come home ?
  • No worries, take care
  • Great!
  • She is able to go home now, she's in much better condition.
  • Alright Vickie your all good to come home now!
