  • Marji discovers in the chapter "The Water Cell" that her grandfather was a prince who lost everything when he was overthrown. He became a communist and he often sent to prison. They would torture him by flooding his cell. Curious, Marji filled her bath tub with water in order to experience the horrors her grandfather endured. This shows the power of Margo's curiosity and willingness to understand.
  • Marjane's uncle, Taher, died of a heart attack after being denied of a passport to Europe for an open heart surgery. This part of Marji's life reveals the sad and unforgiving reality of life.
  • When Marji stood up to the university administrator who demanded a stricter dress code for women, she voiced her opinion in the hope of inspiring a desirable change rather than criticizing. This scene exemplified Marji's strong character as a young woman in an oppressive country.
  • "You say that our headscarves are short...as a student of art...I need to be able to move freely..."-Satrapi (pg. 297)
  • Similar to Marji, I was fortunate to have met one of my grandparents. Unfortunately, I never got to meet three of my grandparents because they died before I was born. I often wonder what my life would be like if they were still alive. "What will they think of me, and will they be proud of me?" This has taught me to value life, my family, and all that the world has to offer.
  • *sigh...I wish I had gotten to seen them before they passed.
  • Diabetes took my uncle's life this year. His death could've have been avoided if his children hadn't taken advantage of him. He was forced to work long and painful shifts at his job to support his children in Ghana, and pay for the house he shared with his two other children; he failed to take his medications. This children were aware of his condition, but they chose to be selfish instead.
  • Hmmm...
  • I relate to Marji in this scenario because I like to voice my opinion and stand my ground in situations that needs me to be courageous. I was accused of being a fake many years ago, and I had the courage to confront my accuser because I was unwilling to let false accusations harm others' perceptions of me. The situation reminded me of the importance of remaining strong and confident.
  • why are you telling people I did something I NEVER did?!
