- She resumed her hunt for records after the war, helped by her husband, a businessman and shareholder in the aircraft manufacturer Canadair, Floyd Odlum. To give her the best chance, she asked Chuck Yeager himself to advise her in her quest for the sound barrier.
- She managed to reach the sound barrier on May 15, 1953, aboard a North American F-86 Sabre manufactured by...Canadair. She reached the speed of 1049 km/h, beating the Frenchwoman Jacqueline Auriol who held the former women's record. She then improved her speed record 6 times.
- Rose invites Jack to dinner to thank him for saving her from "slipping". Rose and Jack begin to fall in love. They see each other more and more. Jack shows Rose his drawings and they describe a life together.
- Rose asks Jack to draw her. They leave the cabin, and when they get back Cal plants the Heart of the Ocean on Jack accusing him of stealing it. Jack begs Rose to believe that he didn't do it.
- The ship hits an iceberg and starts to sink quickly. Rose rushes to save Jack, knowing he never stole the necklace. She frees Jack and they go to the deck but all the lifeboats are gone.
- They jump into the ocean and find a wooden panel only buoyant enough for one person. Holding the edge, Jack assures her that she will live. He dies of hypothermia but Rose is saved. She spends the rest of her life living the way Jack had wanted her to.
