  • 300 to 400 million years ago
  • 50 to 100 million years ago
  • Present days
  • Million of years agoorganisms like algae and other crustaceans in an ancient ocean died. Their remainsfell down into the ocean.
  • Approx. 300 million years ago
  • As time passed the layers of sediments piled on the top of the dead organism to form sedimentary rock. The weight of sedimentary rocks creates pressure and heat.
  • Discovery of Coal
  • The layer of rocks turnsinto the formation of fossil fuel (crude oil and gas). Oil is refined into petroleum products and natural gas is another source of energy used for heating, cooking, and electricity generation.
  • Mining of the coal
  • Plants and other organic matter died, fell into a swamp and turned into a dense material called peat. This peat sustain carbon as its a building block of coal,
  • As the climate changed and with the high temperature beneath the layers of the earth crust that peat transformed into coal.
  • Extraction of coal from the ground is called mining, This coal is valued for high energy supply. In the present time, its unburnt particles create Global warming gases.
