Storyboard Text

  • For his second labor, Heracles was tasked with killing the Lernaean Hydra, a reptilian monster made by Hera specifically to kill him. For this, he journeyed to the Swamps of Lerna.
  • Heracles found the Hydra in the swamp surrounded by poisonous gasses and fumes, which he nulled by putting a cloth over his mouth.
  • Heracles quickly discovered, to his horror, that once a head was severed, two more grew in its place. He fought the monster for hours, but it would not yield to him.
  • Taking this into consideration, Heracles called on his nephew, Iolaus, to start a fire to burn the wounds after a head was cut off, to stop new heads from forming out of the body.
  • After defeating each of the Hydra's heads, Hera sent a giant crab to kill Heracles out of rage, because of how easily he dispatched the Hydra with only help from his nephew.
  • Heracles, who didn't take much notice of the crab, simply squashed the crab under his foot. And with that, the battle was over, with a victory for Heracles, and yet another slap to the face for Hera.
