- Here we are, outside of a Roman Temple: The Greeks had a very big impact on Roman architecture. As you can see, the columns are very similar to the ones you would see in Greece.
- Religion
- Now we are inside of the temple: The Greek and Etruscans both had an influence on Roman writing. The Etruscans adopted the Greek alphabet and then altered it to make it their own. The Romans used and changed the Etruscans alphabet.
- Engineering
- Now we are at a Sporting Event Arena: The Romans adopted two Etruscan sporting events. The first is called "Slave Fighting." Slave Fighting is when slaves fight eachother to death. After the game, the winner would be congratulated and then killed. The second sporting event is Chariot Races. Charioteers were strapped to the chariot. If the chariot fell over, they could be dragged under the wheels or be run over by horses. Chariot races often ended in injury or death.
- Art
- We are now at a place where the Romans do special rituals: The Roman religion is a blend of many influences of the Greek and Etruscans. The Romans followed the Etruscan rituals. The Greek religion had a big impact on the Roman idea about the gods. The earlier Romans did have their own rituals, however, their take on the gods changed as they had more interaction with other cultures.
- This is a regular structure that you would see in Rome: The Romans learned many things from the Etruscans. Two important things that the Romans borrowed is the arch and the cuniculus. Over time, the Romans became even better builders than the Etruscans.
- We are now inside of a place where potters and artists work: The Romans brought Greek art into their own culture but developed their own style. Roman sculptors and painters often used Greek art as a reference for their own art.
