Theme: Teamwork

In the book, a group of peaceful protesters working together led a march from Selma to Montgomery. Eventually, they were stopped by the police officers but held strong despite being beaten, gassed, and attacked by dogs. This shows us that John Lewis and his people were willing to let go of their pride by having peace over violence and perseverance over restrictions.

Throughout the story of March, we see the movement working together to achieve their ultimate goal of desegregation in the Southern States. One way they do this is by having sit-ins at lunch counters to show white people that they truly are peaceful and just want their equal rights in society. Some white people even joined the African Americans, believing that what their government was doing to them was wrong. The only way that African Americans could achieve their goal was with locally coordinated action against segregation rather than large-scale violent protests that doesn't promote peace. We see this several times in March, whether it is peaceful or ends with them being arrested or beaten.

Get out you arent welcome here!

Sir, we just want a meal...

Get out of here!

Go home!

We stand together god is with us!

Can we have a word with the major?

We are outraged because of this bombing! How could you let this go?

I appeal to all citizens to end discrimination. To have no bigotry

No bias

No hatred.

Can you please use your power to stop discriminations?
