Storyboard Text

  • Photosynthesis takes place in chloroplasts. Chloroplasts contains a green substance called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is what soaks up the light energy in order for photosynthesis to happen.
  • There are 2 stages of PHOTOSYNTHESIS 
  • Light-Dependent Stage
  • Light-Independent Stage
  • The light reaction creates oxygen, ATP (energy), and NADPH for later on.
  • This stage cannot happen in the dark. It depends on the sunlight. 
  • Stage 1: Light-Dependent
  • This reaction uses the energy from the light-dependent stage to change carbon dioxide into glucose (sugar). The molecules go through a process called the Calvin Cycle.
  • This reaction can happen in the dark or with light present. 
  • Stage 2: Light-Independent
  • Photosynthesis is important for us humans too! Plants need carbon dioxide to survive, and humans need oxygen.
  • Through the process of photosynthesis, oxygen is made. This makes photosynthesis helpful to both humans and plants!
