  • The rabies virus passes through the saliva of an infected animal. The most common way this virus is transmitted is through a bite of an infected animal.
  • Warm-blooded animals such at raccoons, coyotes, foxes, dogs, and bats are host for this virus.
  • Symptoms don't show up immediately even though it is advised to see a doctor immediately after being bitten by one of these animals. However, bat bites are small and some people don't notice them.
  • After a few days the victim will start showing signs that resemble the flu such as fever, headache, nausea, and vomiting.
  • This is because the virus which is an mononegavirales takes time to travel to the spinal cord and brain once it enters the blood stream. A mononegavirales is a virus with a non segmented negative-stranded RNA genome.
