- Egeus wanted his daughter Hermia to marry Demetrius but Hermia and Lysander loved each other and wanted to marry. Theseus the duke of Athens 'resolved' this problem however Hermia would become a nun.
- That night Hermia and Lysander ran away to his Aunt's house where they would get married. Before they left they told Helena that they were going and trying to earn his love Helena told Demetrius. They then went in search of Hermia and Lysander.
- In a clearing in the woods some workmen practiced a play for the duke's wedding, Oberon and his servant Puck turned bottoms face into a donkey and made Titania fall in love with as revenge.
- Oberon tried to help the Athenians love problem but made it worse: Demetrius and Lysander now loved Helena, Hermia was upset with Lysander for loving Helena and Helena thought that Demetrius and Lysander were teasing her.
- Puck and Oberon put the Athenians and fixed the love potions resolving their problem.
- The next morning, Duke Theseus and Hippolyta found the four lovers asleep and took them home to Athens where they would get married.
