The Diamond Necklace

- I am Madam Loisel and I blame Madame Forestier for my downfall. If she had been honest with me and told me the necklace was a fake in the first place, then I would have been able to pay her back quickly and my husband and I would not have been forced to take out lots of loans.
- My name is Monsieur Loisel and I blame my wife for her downfall. If she hadn't have been so greedy and listened to me about wearing flowers to the ball, we would not have been in this mess in the first place.
- My name is Madame Forestier and I blame Madame Loisel for her downfall. I just don't understand why she didn't tell me about the necklace! If she had told me, I could have told her the necklace was a fake and she wouldn't have had to spend ten years trying to pay it off.
- I am one of the usurers that Monsieur Loisel borrowed money from. I blame Monsieur Loisel for the downfall of Madame Loisel. If he had stood up to his wife in the first place, and not tolerated her ungrateful behaviour, then none of this would have happened. Also, he was the one who suggested that Madame Loisel borrow the necklace from her friend and he was the one who told her to lie about the clasp being broken rather than admitting it had been lost.
- I am the maid who used to work for Madame Loisel. I am annoyed that everyone feels sorry for Madame Loisel, but what about me? I lost my job because of what happened but no one cares because I am lower class.I blame the class system for what happened. If Madame Loisel wasn't so keen to try and fit in with the upper class, then none of this would have happened and I would still have my job.
- I am the cab driver who drove the Loisels home the night of the ball. I blame the first jeweller they went to see. He said that he supplied the clasp for the necklace, but he must have done a bad job otherwise the necklace would not have fallen off so easily!
