- Persephone was in the gardens and playing with the daughters of Oceanus. In the gardens was "a marvellous, radiant flower" that Persephone was struck by its beauty and reached to pick it.
- They were never aloud to turn around so they always thought the shadows that refelcted onto the walls were an accurate display of what people looked like and what everything else actually looked like.

- The humans dying meant the Gods were not worshipped so they came to Demeter offering her gifts yet she was adamant on not returning to Olympus until she was reunited with her daughter.
- After Zeus saw the famine he demanded Hades give Persephone back and he agreed but "he secretly gave her one seed of a honey-sweet pomegranate to eat". The intention behind his devious plan was to have Persephone bound to the Underworld with him but after he sent her up Demeter sensed that something was wrong.
- The prisoner left the cave and went back out only to wonder whether the things outside the cave and all the different figures were any more real than the shadows they always saw inside of the cave.
