  • In 1954, Oliver Brown's Child was denied access to a Topeka County school.
  • His child was denied because of their skin color.
  • Brown was a lawyer, and he went to court. The federal district court ruled against what Brown wanted, so he appealed to the Supreme Court.
  • There was a unanimous vote, and Brown won!
  • The Supreme Court said that segregating children in public schools violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
  • It is important to Americans because their children can interact with different types of people now that schools are integrated. It changed the country because it's one of the events that lead up to ending segregation everywhere.
