  • For almost two centuries, the American colonies governed themselves free from the British.
  • Wanna play cards?
  • Sorry dude, I dont get my pay check until next week.
  • Although starting in the 1760's, the British started enforcing tax laws to pay for financial damage that was done by the Seven Year War.

  • The money from taxing the American colonists was used to support the British troops settled in the the 13 colonies. However, the Americans thought the troops were only there to patrol them and did not want to pay tax for that.
  • I say we stop buying their goods!!

  • In March 1765, the British passed the Stamp Act, which stated that proof of tax had to be provided on all documents, even for things as simple as playing cards.
  • Eventually, the colonists started protesting against the British because they didn't agree with the new law.
  • Groups of colonists such as the Sons and Daughters of liberty started refusing British goods. And soon enough British merchants began to struggle and the stamp act was reppeled.
