The Holocaust is one of the blackest periods in world history. Anne Frank was a Jewish girl whose family tried to escape persecution and imprisonment by hiding in secret rooms. Anne kept a diary of her experience in the “Secret Annex” that shows the difficulties the Franks faced, as well as courage, wisdom, and hope in the face of adversity.
Adolf Hitler became chairman of the Nazi Party. Hitler was able to persuade and incite crowds with his ensnaring charisma. He blamed the Jews for Germany's decline.

Anne Frank was born in Frankfurt, Germany. A worldwide depression hit the already devastated Germany. Many German people started to listen to Hitler and the Nazi party.
Hitler is elected Chancellor of Germany. He dissolved the German legislature, the Reichstag and issued many anti-Jew laws. The Franks left Frankfurt and moved to Amsterdam.
Germany invaded Holland. The country was occupied by Nazi soldiers. Jews living there, like the Franks, were persecuted and forced to wear yellow stars to identify them.
Germany invaded Poland and started a war to expand its empire.
Jews were rounded up and taken away by soldiers in German-occupied countries. The Franks moved into the Secret Annexe.
The Gestapo raided the Secret Annexe and the the occupants were captured. The Franks, Van Daans, and Mr. Dussel were sent to camps in Germany.
Anne Frank died in Belson, a concentration camp in Germany. The war ended three months later.
