  • St. Marcelline attended the major seminary, and after that he was appointed curate to the Parish.
  • Marcellin devoted his life to establishing the Marist Brothers and a way of life for his followers. Marcellin's early years were easy and unremarkable.
  • Marcellin visited a young man – Jean Baptiste Montage – who was gravely ill. And also uneducated and doesn't have any knowledge about God.
  • Who is God? Do you think he can he can cure me?
  • Don't worry young man, God will heal you.
  • Marcellin's passionate commitment to act to alleviate the condition of young people sprang from this event. As a result, the idea arose to form a teaching order that would try to improve the lives of children who were disadvantaged or deprived of opportunities.
  • Marcellin encouraged two young men, Jean-Marie Granjon and Jean Baptiste Audras, to join him in forming the nucleus of the Marist Brothers.
  • His educational philosophy was a simple one: to teach children one must love them.
  • God is our Hope and Savior.
  • Over the next 20 years, Marcellin proceeded to construct Marist communities. Within 20 years, this number had risen to nearly 2000, and the Marist Brothers are still caring for and teaching pupils all throughout the world, as Marcellin had envisioned.
  • This is what Marcellin referred to as “the family spirit” which, to this day, touches all who come under the influence of the Marist charism.
