Pele was a descendent of the Sky Father and a spirit names Haumea. She was borin in Tahiti, where indiscretions with her sister's husband and fiery temper got her into trouble. She was banished from Tahiti by her Father, the king.
Your sister Pele is still alive
After she was banished from Tahiti, Pele decided to travel to the Hawaiian islands in a canoe. However, soon after she landed, her rival sister also arrived there, and attacked her.
Pele was able to recover from her injuries by fleeing to Oahu and the other islands, where she decided to dig several giant fire pits,
However, once Pele's sister Namakoakahai discovered that Pele was still alive, she was furious.
Namakaokahai chased Pele to Maui, where the two sisters fought to death. Pele was torn apart and shredded into pieces by her own sister! Pele became a god and chose to make her home on Mauna Kea.
Today, it is said that Pele will bring bad fortune and luck to those who take any pieces of lava or rock from the islands as souvenirs. Because Pele is known to be unpredictable and very easily angered, many Hawaiians have left gifts and offerings to keep her happy - and this tradition even continues today!
