- The Paracas culture was an important society in the history of Peru, well known for its textile art, its mummies and for cranial trepanation to heal fractures and tumors in the skull.

- the Paracas practiced surgical operations, called skull trepanations.
- For this practice, the Paracas surgeon used obsidian blades, tumis or knives with a crescent-shaped edge.

- The corpses before being buried had to go through a mummification process. In this process they disposed of the organs and body parts of the corpse, they also burned them and reduced them to a minimum size so that they could bury it.
