Phase 3: Rival 1670-1760Britain set up the Hudson's bay company. But both Britain and France were trading with the First Nations people. The two countries were competing in the fur trade Britain had the area around Hudson's bay while the French controlled the Great lake/S. Lawrence region.

Phase 4: West 1760-1821The North West Company took over the French fur trade. The two British companies now are competing. They both moved west trying to be to be the first ones to get to the unclaimed and new fur trading territory

Phase 5 Monopoly1821-1870Britain got the HBC and the NWC to merge into one company and that company was called the Hudson's Bay Company, which they would trade all across Canada
