  • Freud's Defense Mechanism
  • Let's learns about 5 of Freud's Defense Mechanisms!
  • Projection
  • Get lost kid! And lose that ball! You'll end up like me!
  • Denial
  • Smoking won't kill my lungs! This doctor is saying riduculous things!
  • By: Ayan Gupta
  • Displacement
  • Projection would be when you displace your feelings about something onto another person because you don't like it about yourself. In this example the old man is projecting his anger and frustration of becoming disabled by playing sports onto the innocent kid.
  • Rationalization
  • I'm only going to drink one more beer. Besides, no one will ever find out.
  • Denial is when a person refuses to believe painful realities. In this example, the person refuses to believe that smoking will harm his lungs, so he won't ever quit smoking.
  • Reaction Formation
  • Can you fix a few things on this?
  • Displacement is when a person shifts their aggression towards a more acceptable person. In this scenario, a girl angry at her mom kicks her toys out of anger instead of kicking her mom.
  • UGH! Why does Mom always have to take my iPad!?!
  • Rationalization is when a person offers a self-justified explanation in place of a real, logical reason. In this example, the man justifieshis idea of having another drink by saying that no one will ever find out that he has drunk one more.
  • Reaction Formation is when a person reacts to an unacceptable feeling by expressing the exact opposite emotion. In this example, the man is annoyed and mad that his boss wants him to do more work, however, he displays a happy face.
  • Sure!
  • ARGH!!! He is so annoying!!
