  • In 1534 Jacques Cartier was ordered by the king of France to find an alternate route to the East. He also had to claim land for the King of France and bring back silk, gold, and more.
  • He voyaged around Cap Bonne Vista, past Cap du Sauvage, and encircled the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Then he went around and through Cap Saint-Louie, around the edge of Terre de Taln, and towards France.
  • In 1531 Cartier went on his second voyage. He brought over more men and Indigenous people taught Europeans how to survive in Canada.
  • On Jacques third voyage he set up a colony in Canada, came with missionaries to convert the First Nations people, and the original colony was abandoned within the year.
