Storyboard Text

  • Once upon a time there was a group of ten mice living in the forest. There were only green mice. Legend has it that these mice are the ancestors of the green mouse in the counting rhyme.
  • But after several years of peace and quiet, some mice mysteriously changed colour, turning pink. This is the result of a mutation in their DNA. The mutation was passed on to the children of the affected mice.
  • That's funny, it's pink!
  • MUTATION
  • This mutation did not cause any problems, except for the day when a fox came to live near the mice. The fox started to eat the mice.
  • I will eat you all!
  • Why me?!
  • NATURAL SELECTION
  • The fox ate the pink mice, which are the most visible. The green mice were spared. This other phenomenon is natural selection. The mice that survive best in their habitat stay and live. But he will forget one, which will later save the line of pink mice.
  • I think I can leave after eating them all!
  • NATURAL SELECTION
  • He didn't see me.
  • This phenomenon of natural selection was highlighted by a great scientist, Charles Darwin, in his book "The Origin of Species", published in 1859.
  • This is what I call natural selection!

  • NATURAL SELECTION
  • But our mouse story doesn't end there, one day a scientist decided to use mice for his experiments. Bad luck for our mice, he only wanted the roses! This phenomenon is called genetic drift. It is a random event that affects a population. It only works on small populations.
  • Hello little mouse!
