  • This is were slaves often worked, slavery actually played a big part in the civil war. However, during the reconstruction era post civil war, the thirteenth amendmentbanned all slavery or any harsh treatment, except for punishment of committedcrimes from the United States.
  • Yes! We're free!
  • They claim we're free, yet we still have no rights!!
  • Yeah! What about the Jim Crow Laws that separateblacks and whites, or black codes that prevent us free slaves from having normal rights as citizens. Do people even consider us citizens?

  • Well, thanksto the 14th amendment, All peopleborn in the U.S. living under the country's rules, are citizens of the country and state they live in! No state can createa law that strips away any rights from a person!
  • YES!!
  • This isn't fair! We'recitizens yet we still can't vote!!
  • Now all freedmen can vote thanks to the 15th amendment, which states that a citizens right to vote cannot be taken away because of their race, color, or previousservitudes! (slavery)
  • Yes! We finally have right just like all the other citizens!
