  • Hi, today im gonna teach you about convection currents in the mantle.
  • First, hot magma rises up from the Earths core, this is able to happen because when the magma is hot it has a low density. density is basically the speed of molecules,
  • because the hot magma has a low density this means the molecules are fast moving and spread apart. Next, some of the magma goes up between the tech plates, this is where seafloor spreading comes in.
  • the magma cools and becomes dense. meaning the molecules are very slow moving and clumped together. due to this the magma hardens into part of the earths crust and over millions of years of spreading it is finally subducted back into the mantle.
  • now the temp of the magma is still colder and it is more dense, this causes the magma to go back down to the earths core.
  • this starts the process all over again. thank you for coming to my ted talk
