- argh, aargh, argh
- Grendel, a powerful monster living down in the darkness, growled in pain, impatient as day after day, the loud musing rang in Herot. Grendel was envious and enraged because he knew that as a demon he could never experience such joy in his life.
- Then when darkness had dropped, Grendel went to Herot and snatched up 30 men unknowing in their beds and ran out with their bodies. The next night Grendel came again and he continued to do so for 12 winters.
- He must be stopped; our people are being ripped to shreds
- In secret, Hrothgar and the council met to seek out how to stop this monster. The men resorted to sacrificing to pagan gods and made heathen vows in the hopes of gaining Satan's help in being spared from the monster.
- I agree, we cannot go on like this.
- Beowulf, the strongest warrior and Geat, hears about Grendel tormenting Herot and journeys there to save the Danes from this vicious monster and restore Herot to its greatness. To assist him to defeat Grendel, he enlists the help of 14 warriors.
- This monster will be defeated for good.
- When Beowulf lands in Denmark, he is welcomed by King Hrothgar. Beowulf then goes on to tell Hrothgar about his previous accomplishments and why he should take on this monster. Beowulf believes he owes Hrothgar something because he helped his father in a time of need by gifting treasures to the Wulfings.
- Beowulf you've come to us in friendship, and because of the reception your father found at our court.
- I am suited to fight this demon. I drove five great giants into chains, chased all of that race from the Earth. I hunted and killed many monsters.
- A banquet was held in Beowulf's honor. A poet sang from time to time, in a clear pure voice, Danes and Geats celebrated as one, drank and rejoiced.
