Santiago was tired when the sun went down so he decided to sleep in an abandoned Church. He dreamed about the hidden treasure in the pyramids again. He woke up scared when he had the same dream again and he thought it had something to do with the Church.

Santiago decides that he wants to be a shepherd so he can go travel the world and ask about his dream. He asks for his father's blessings. His father gave him ancient Spanish Gold Coins to use as money.
Santiago Meets the Thief in Africa at a Bar
Santiago meets with a Gypsy Woman who reads his palm and tells him he's the only one that can interpret his dream. She asks to know more about the dream and Santiago explains it. She then asks for One-Tenth of the treasure if he finds it.
Urim and Thummim Teach Santiago a Lesson
The King of Salem named Melchizedek somehow knew everything about the boy including his dream about the treasure and private information. The King asks Santiago for one-tenth of his sheep in order to help him find the hidden treasure. The King provided him with a lot of advice and gave him two rocks Urim and Thummim.
Santiago met a man at a bar in Africa who understood Spanish and spoke Arabic. Santiago wanted him as a tour guide and he said yes. Soon on the trip the man turned out to be a thief and stole Santiago's money.
Santiago was checking his pouch to see what he had left and if he had a half-eaten sandwich since he had no money. He asked Urim and Thummim if the King's blessings were still with him and he took out yes. He asked if he would find his treasure and both rocks pushed out of a small hole in the pouch. He realized that you shouldn't ask certain things about your destiny or your dream.
