  • Nick Carroway just moved east. Sometime after his arrival, he visits his cousin Daisy, Tom Buchanan, her husband, and Daisy' friend Jordan for dinner.
  • Rising Action
  • Nick struggles to retell the events he participated in with Jay Gatsby.
  • Climax
  • At dinner, Nick learns that Tom is having an affair. Daisy has suspected Tom to be involved with different women from the start. This scene shows Tom with his mistress named Myrtle. Tom invited Nick to come with during his visit.
  • Falling Action/Resolution
  • Jay Gatsby lives next to Nick Carroway. Jay is very rich and makes Nick's house look miniscule. Nick is invited to one of Gatsby's parties. There he meets Jay and learns that he loves Daisy. Nick helps Jay connect with Daisy.
  • Daisy attempts to leave Tom for Gatsby. Daisy is incredibly stressed. This is because she is in an emotional battle and Tom got in a fight with Gatsby. Daisy ends up running over Myrtle on her drive home.
  • George Wilson (Myrtles husband) kills Gatsby in his pool. George killed Gatsby because Gatsby took responsibility for the death of Myrtle. Daisy and Tom leave the city to flee the emotional trauma of the recent events. Nick is broken because he lost a friend.
