- Robert Hooke invented the microscope and discovered cells by looking at a cork! He even came up with a name for them because the rows reminded him of monks in cells.
- Eureka!
- Anton Van Leeuwanhoek decided that he wanted to make his own microscope, when he made it he looked at everything, even his dental scrapings. That is how bacteria was discovered.
- What is that it looks like an animal
- Matthias Schleiden only looked at plants as a hobby until he figured out that all plants are made of cells. Then he worked with Theodor Schwann to create the cell theory.
- Theodor Schwann studied animals for his entire life, but one day he figured out that all animals are made of cells. Then he worked with Matthias Schleiden to develop the cell theory.
- While Schwann and Schleiden were great scientists they couldn't figure out where cells come from. Rudolf Virchow figured out that cells come from preexisting cells.

- Hans Adolf Krebs was one of the only Jewish scientists in the 1930s because of the Holocaust, but he still figured out that cells turn sugars into energies they use to function.
