Sam, the onion man is rowing his boat, Mary Lou -named after his loyal donkey- with his beloved onions. His onions were used for medicinal purposes and for amazing dishes. He was rowing to a mountain where the stream runs uphill - where he arrived at Katherine Barlow's place.
It was a rainy day, when Katherine Barlow had nothing for Sam to fix for her (which was her way to spend time with him), so she felt very depressed - but as always, Sam knew how to fix that - he kissed her. Unfortunately, a woman called Hattie Parker had spotted them and had spread the news. This caused many citizens to take negative action against this - as it was considered unacceptable for a dark-skinned man to kiss a white-skinned woman.
GOD WILL PUNISH YOU!
I can fix that.
After the news spread, angry mobs were taking harsh actions against Katherine, so she tried to escape with Sam on his rowboat. But, Charlie 'Trout' Walker had followed them on his motorized boat, armed. He picked up his gun and fired it at Sam, the onion man. Katherine was devastated. Charlie 'Trout' Walker had taken Katherine back to shore, when her devastation was pushed higher.
MARY LOU
After Sam had sunk, Charlie 'Trout' Walker had taken Katherine to shore, where she found Sam's trusted donkey, Mary Lou. She was extremely bruised all around and she had been shot in the head. Katherine could no longer tolerate this - first Sam, now Mary Lou. So, she decided to take action...
After all that happened to Katherine Barlow, she returned the favor. She shot a policeman (one who was incompetent with her prior to Sam's death) and after coating her lips with fresh lipstick, she kissed him on the cheek (a kiss the policeman asked her for when she needed help), and left the scene. For the following 20 years, she was the most feared outlaw in the west, "Kissin' Kate Barlow".
This story had taken place a hundred and ten years ago - since then, not even a drop of rain has fallen on Green Lake. The horrors and losses Katherine Barlow feels is unmeasurable.
