- Eduviges Portalet was born on December 3, 1826 in the city of Lyon (France). It was baptized with the names of Francisca Genoveva Eduviges. His parents were Don Benniot Marie Portalet and his mother Zelié Eleonore Couturier, Eduviges inherited the most relevant virtues from his parents. She received her First Communion in 1838 as a student of the Ursuline nuns of Villefranche
- His encounter with Jesus left indelible marks on his soul.At the age of fifteen, she entered the Marcellín Visitation Convent as a student to finish her education. In November 1862 he entered the recently founded Institute of Mary Immaculate in Marseille.
- Encouraged by the Spirit of God that guided all her actions, Mother Eduviges began the construction of the Institute for Blind Children on Rue Montplaisir, moving to the new building on September 30, 1871 with the Community and the blind children.
- Guided by Divine Providence, the works spread overseas to new horizons in America. The Mother Foundress had received repeated requests for a foundation in Ecuador (America), to take charge of the administration and assistance to the sick of the Cuenca Leprocomium. Knowing that this was God's will, she made the preparations for the trip, sending six of her nuns who, after a long journey, set foot on American soil on July 14, 1889, settling in Cuenca (Ecuador).They quickly spread throughout that Republic with flourishing charities and education.
- On November 4, 1894, the venerated Mother falls seriously ill and dies with only 68 years and 31 of religious profession, she left the winter of the earth, to enter the eternal spring of the happiness of heaven.
