- There is a population of rabbits living in the mountains by and an a lake
- There is a flood that separates the rabbits. Some stay up in the mountains while others stay in the lower parts by the water
- Some rabbits have thicker and darker fur than others that make them more suitable for their habitat by the lake
- Geographic Isolation is where 2 populations of the same species where are separated by a geographical barrier
- Variation is the differences in traits and physical features in a population. fur colour can help camoflage and evade predators
- Some rabbits have an easier time surviving in the habitat than others and adapt to the environment more easily. Those rabbits mate with others who also have an easier time surviving in the specific lake environment.
- Selection is where some organisms have traits that give higher chances of survival and reproduction
- The offspring of the rabbits inherit traits from the parents such as thicker, darker fur and longer ears which help them in the habitat that they live in
- Inheritance the process of when a fit organism that survives reproduces and passes down traits which their offspring will inherit
- When the rabbits meet again, they are completely different. The ones by the lake have thicker, darker fur and longer ears whereas the ones by the mountain have different traits that are suited for their habitat. They are now different species.
