- On his way home, Pelayo saw something moving and groaning. He had to go very close to see that it was an old man that he couldn't get up because of his enormous wings. He ran to get his wife, and they call in a neighbor, who knew about these kind of things.
- He's an angel. He must have been coming for the child, but the poor fellow is so old that the rain knocked him down.
- The next day, everyone knew the old man with enormous wings was being held captive at Pelayo's house. Father Gonzaga was alarmed at the strange news and arrived before seven o'clock
- He doesn't understand the language of God or knows how to greet his ministers. He also has a terrible smell.
- Elisensa and Pelayo exploited the angel by charging five cents so people could see him. With that money they built a two-story mansion with balconies and gardens and high netting so that crabs wouldn’t get in during the winter. But, the angel lived in the same conditions as before.
- A woman turned into a spider after being struck by lightning.
- When I was a child, I sneaked out of my parents’ house to go to a dance. When I was coming back home, a fearful thunderclap split the sky in two and through the crack came the lightning that turned me into a spider.
- Elisenda let out a sigh of relief, for herself and for him, when she watched him pass over the last houses, because then he was no longer an annoyance in her life.
