  • Causes of the War
  • The war of 1812
  • Trouble with Native Americans
  • Land Battles
  • The war of 1812 was a war between America and Great Britain. One of leading causes was impressment of American sailors. Which Great Britain continued to do for years even against American laws and even opening fire on the Chesapeake .
  • Sea Battles
  • As settlers moved into Ohio pushing out Native Americans. The Shawnee tribe and others by the Mississippi rivers united and fought back against Americans. Great Britain supported and pushed Natives to fight back even giving them weapons which enraged the Americans.
  • Battle of New Orleans
  • America finally declared war in 1812. One of Americas goals was to expand north in Canada which they thought was going to be "a mere matter of marching" which was wrong. They failed 1812-1814 and gave up. The British also launched an invasion in Washington D.C. and even President Madison had to flee the capitol.
  • Results of the War
  • In 1813 the U.S. naval force made a British fleet of 6 ships surrender. But the British attacked the port of Baltimore in September of 1814. But failed leaving the American flag still standing.
  • The battle of New Orleans was the biggest American victory of the war where Andrew Jackson's troops killed and wounded over 2000 compared to Americas 70. Although it was an amazing win for America it was completely unnecessary because the countries signed a peace treaty that didn't get to New Orleans until after the battle.
  • Both America and Great Britain claimed victory though there was really no winner of the war, but it did have effects on America. First of all, over the years Native Americans were pushed west of the Mississippi River. Secondly. many took pride in being American and standing up the Great Britain. Finally, the federalist party was permanently ruined and 2 war heroes like Andrew Jackson and William Henry Harrison would both eventually be elected for president.
