Storyboard Text

  • Long ago, the first people on Earth were not getting along. To create peace, a great spirit decided to flood the Earth.
  • Only Nanabush and a few water animals survived. Nanabush said he would swim to the bottom to get a piece of Earth. Using the mud, they could make an island.
  • Nanabush could not reach the bottom to get some mud. Many animals tried as well, but everyone came back up with nothing. Then, the little muskrat said "I will try".
  • All the animals laughed at the muskrat. They thought he was weak and small. The muskrat tried anyway and was finally able to get a small ball of mud.
  • Sadly, the muskrat was under the water for too long, so he died when he came back. The turtle offered to carry the piece of land on his back.
  • The piece of land grew and grew on the turtle's back until it became what we now call North America. Nanabush and all the animals lived there in peace.
