  • Gentrification is the process of making improvements to a certain area or neighborhoods. For example paving over the streets or opening up new restaurants and stores. This can be very beneficial to the city because it can increase the value of homes by turning it into a higher class area. It is also beneficial to people who already own homes in the neighborhood because it increases their quality of life without many cons. Although there are many perks to gentrification it also comes with negative effects, due to the increased house prices it causes lower class citizens and renters to need to move if they cannot afford new prices.
  • Gated Communities
  • I'm really worried about the murderer going around
  • A Greenbelt is an area of land protected by the government so people can't urbanize or industrialize. This is typically to preserve the safety of wild life, or the beauty of certain areas so that people can engage in nature with needing to take any risks. Some famous examples of these areas could be Yosemite National Park, or Yellowstone National Park. These locations could also include things like streams, rivers, or orchards.
  • Edge City
  • I have such a long commute to work because I can't find a house in town
  • New urbanism is when a town has been constructed in the way they have been for the past few centuries, compacting work spaces, homes, and retail and commercial stores nearby each other. This is often done to reduce peoples dependency on cars or other motor vehicles. Although it is often criticized for how it centrally planned and gives very little say in how it is developed to the people who will be using it.
  • I love how everything is within walking distance
  • Gated communities are neighborhoods surrounded by a fence or wall. People often choose to live in gated communities because it is safer, and is free of solicitors or random people walking around. They can also be much safer than normal neighborhoods, often deterring any criminals. Gated Communities also tend to have an HOA (Home Owners Association. Gated communities are not without cons though, the prices to buy or rent houses in these communities are extremely high compared to the average price for a house that size. There are also many other expenses and fees you have to pay regularly for both upkeep, renovations, and security.
  • Don't worry we should be safe in this gated community.
  • An edge city is an urban area with a large surrounding area composed of suburban residences and businesses, Four main characteristics of edge cities are that they usually have 5 million square feet of land. They also have 600,000 square feet of leasable office space, another common characteristic is having more jobs than bedrooms. Locals also typically view the city as one space
