- A long time ago, in a small town near the beach, lived Malin Kundang and his mother. The mother was single as Malin's father had passed away when he was very young.

- Malin was a very healthy and strong boy and would often help his mother with fishing and work.

- One day Malin's father went out to sea to travel to a bigger town that was wealthier and larger to find work and more money.
- OH NO!
- Several years later, Malin's father hadn't returned and Malin and his mother had soon given up hope...
- One day Malin decided to go out to sea and work on his own as well. His mother didn't want him to as she thought that he wouldn't come back just like his father. However after they fought about it for a while, Malin got what he wanted.
- After a long time, Malin had succeeded and was very wealthy, and even had his own wife. He had decided to sail back to his hometown. However, when his mother saw him, she came running over. But as Malin didn't want to be embarrassed by her to his wife, he ignored her. His mother called out to the gods to curse him, and he turned to stone.
