Here we meet James Henry Trotter, a young, mistreated, and sad boy. After an old man gave James a bag of squiggly magical worms, James promptly tripped and spilled the worms all over the ground.
Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker were so surprised, and a little suspicious, of the giant peach that grew from an old tree. James was curious and climbed inside a hole he found.
After smooshing the Aunts, the peach rolled over the countryside and down to the water. Meanwhile, James and his new friends were in the peach, rolling into their new adventure.
Once in the water, the friends realized they needed to get out! James came up with one of his many brilliant plans of lassoing birds to lift the peach out of the water.
It was anything but smooth flying for the crew. They discovered a group of cloudmen in charge of the weather phenomenon including painting a rainbow, which the peach crashed into almost immediately. The cloudmen threw cloud balls, and the peach and its occupants narrowly escaped.
The peach flies over NYC where the residents are afraid of what it could be. The peach sticks onto the spire of the Empire State Building! At first, even the firefighters and policemen are scared of the new arrivals. After meeting everyone, however, they are helped down and given a parade. The new family lives in the pit of the peach, happily ever after.
