Storyboard Text

  • Well, as you know ladies we asked to interview you because we need to appoint new English teachers for the 6th graders at our school. I will not ask you to do a demo lesson now. Instead, I want to know how would you prepare for a reading comprehension text session.
  • et me start first with you, Ms. Lama.
  • My pleasure, dear principal! For a reading session, I would ask the students to read silently and individually the text two times, highlight the keywords, and then solve the comprehension questions in pairs.
  • I will read the text with them again, discuss the questions, write the answers on the board, and ask them to check their work.
  • How can you ensure their understanding of the material?
  • What about you, Ms. Lynn?
  • To be honest, I totally disagree with Ms. Lama's approach. I think that students learn a lot through texts, to make benefit of this, a session allocated for a reading comprehension text must be interactive.
  • What do you mean by making such a session interactive? When no experiments, PBLs, or group work can be done! Can you elaborate more on this, Ms. Lynn?
  • With technology today, all classes can be interactive and enjoyable to the students. Nevertheless, one should keep in mind that digital literacy must be reinforced in a 21st-century classroom.
  • That's to say, for a reading comprehension text, I will make use of the equipment available in the school. I might use the smartboard to present the text. We can read the text all together, highlight, add something, and make the modification needed on the spot; on the smartboard. By making this, the lesson will be interactive and I will be able to reach all the students and make sure they fully understood.
  • After reading the text and answering the questions, I can post it on OneDrive or Class Notebook, so that every student will have access to read, modify, and view their friends' notes.
  • That's what I wanted to hear. Welcome, to you both, on board! I am looking forward to seeing your collaboration together for a fruitful result!
