  • One morning, before school class started at Ogden Elementary, a couple students from Ms. Marini's class talked about their current science project.

  • Good morning Class!While everyone's done a great job with their research so far, I think we should go over information literacy and evaluating sources!
  • To access a sources credibility, one should pay attention to the sources currency, relevance, authority, accuracy, and purpose!
  • Can anyone explain how to evaluate a source online?
  • Criteria for Evaluating your sources credibility:1. Current - When was the information published?2. Relevant - Will this help you with your research?3. Authority - Who is the author, publisher, and what are their qualifications?4. Accurate - Is the information researched and correct?5. Purpose - Why did the author write this?
  • That's right, good job! There are five important criteria to keep in mind while doing your research. This is important so that you know your information is reliable and you can feel confident in your research!

Evaluate the sources without bias (explore different perspectives, analyze the sources critically)4. Apply the information to your project (paraphrase, integrate quotes, use images)5. Acknowledge the sources you used (include a work cited or bibliography, familiarize yourself with copyright, fair use, and plagiarism)
