Storyboard Text

  • Liesel’s story starts on a train. Her mother is no longer able to take care of Liesel or her brother. Because of this, they were being taken to live with their new foster parents, Hans and Rosa Hubermann. Unfortunately thought.. Leisel’s brother never made it. He had died on the train before they ever arrived to their destination.
  •
  • Leisel arrives at the Hubermann’s household and is introduced to her new foster parents. During her reassignment there, one particular night, Liesel had a nightmare about her brother’s death. Hans, her new father, calmed her down. The same night however, he discovered the first book that Leisel had stolen, previously from her brother’s grave before she had arrived to their house. This then leads to Hans teaching her to read.
  • As Leisel begins getting used to living day to day in her new house and with her new family, she one day discovers that a stranger was living in her basement. This stranger’s name was Max. Leisel and Max began opening up and learned more and more about each other as the days passed. But a problem arose when Max fell very ill, which caused worry and anxiety for the Hubermann’s for they couldn’t be caught by the Nazis or anybody else with a Jew inside their house.
  • The story hits its climax when Hummel Street is bombed. This caused destruction everywhere, but to a more drastic degree, Leisel lost everything and everyone she had. She lost her home, her parents, and her very great friend, Rudy whom she had been acquainted with the first few days she moved to Himmel Street for the first time. This bombing was officially when the world had just collapsed figuratively and literally onto Leisel.
  • Leisel was found among the rubble by other individuals who were trying to save and look for any survivors after the bombing. Leisel however ran away from these people and found Rudy, dead and still. Leisel shared a heartbroken moment with her best friend whom she will never see again, and gave him his first kiss. Leisel then found her mother and father and sits with them, while crying and talking softly to them.
  • In the end, the narrator Death comes to a conclusion about his perception of the human race and how wicked it is and he quotes “that he is “haunted by humans.” The resolution also portrays and shows the ultimate devastation of war and hatred.
