  • Lacking nutrition, intermittent sleep, and general bad care from overburdened nurses can all lead to delirium, infection, and pressure ulcers. Aside from these, bed rest can significantly weaken older people, making it difficult for them to return to an autonomous life after discharge. During the 1930s, municipal hospitals were especially busy. According to one data study, between 1929 and 1933, public hospitals had a 21% rise in patient load, with an average occupancy rate of 90% in 1933.

  • In 1933, a hospital stay lasted two weeks on average. Many patients were unable to pay, leaving beds unoccupied while patients suffered different sorts of sicknesses and Diseases back at their homes.

  • The hospitals around the 1900s conditions weren't as good as they were now they would be highly infected or full of different sicknesses which could put a lot of the people at the hospitals in danger.
  • Smaller wards were put into hospitals to assist reduce the spread of sickness and infection. This, however, had little effect on prevention because these rooms were similarly congested with patients due to a shortage of space.
