- I really wish he would stop drinking.
- I wish I knew what to do for my project. I don't want people to figure out about my mom.
- Yeah, Jane Nelson might be here for a while.
- I hate hospitals let alone mental hospitals.
- Tom Nelson is Sarah's father who has depression and a drinking problem. After Sarah's mom had to leave the house, Sarah and her dad had to move to a different town. Tom started getting depressed because he thought that Sarah's mom leaving was his fault when it really wasn't. To deal with this guilt Tom started drinking. This relates to mental illness because depression is a form of mental illness that a person can develop.
- Sara was experiencing a lot of stress and anxiety because of her upcoming 7th grade family tree project. She was feeling all of this because she didn't want all of her friends and peers to find out that her mom was Jane Nelson. The reason she didn't want people to find out about her mom is because her mom tried to do some bad things in her past that was all over the news and lots of people found our about.
- Sarah's mom, Jane Nelson, had to go into a mental hospital when Sarah was only 2 years old. Sarah just says that her mom went crazy to people who ask her about it. This relates to mental illness because Sarah's mom had a mental illness. When Sarah tries to deal with this she just gets scared and paranoid that she is going to become "crazy" like her mother.
