- One example of military confrontation over land, resources, and political boundaries is the defeat of the Spanish Armada. England defeated the Spanish Armada ships and gained control over the Atlantic Ocean. The Atlantic Ocean gave trade advantages and made it easier to colonize in the Americas.
- Mercantilism, made it where European countries were always in conflict over who could have the most wealth. As a result The French had very strong alliances with Native Americans. They traded fur with the Native Americans. In settlements such as Canada this was very important economically. To keep a good relationship, French men would marry Indian women. They then learned and adopted some of their culture.
- Pope's Rebellion was a rebellion against the oppression of the Spanish Conquistadors. This happened because they used their political power to enslave the Pueblos. The Pueblos won this revolt.
- Bacon's Rebellion was a conflict over land. Indentured servants who were promised land, started to not receive their land. They became jealous of the Indian's relationships with the governor of Virginia.
- One conflict over political boundaries was the Pequot and the English. The English were taking to much land by the Connecticut River. This lead the English and Narragansett Indians to fight with the Pequots.
- Europeans learned the Native American way of cultivating Maize. Maize was an important crop to the Native Americans and benefited the Europeans. It became a strong food source for them.
