  • HEY!!!! You there!!!
  • Wow!!! Look at this flower! It looks so good.
  • I should take it and show it to my mom.
  • Don't pluck that flower. By the way, why are you here alone? Where are your parents?
  • Well then go to back to her. You might get lost here.
  • Aww. I can't? My mom is over there.
  • Ok..
  • Mrs. Gren? Who is that? Is she a teacher?
  • Mom! I just saw a pretty flower and I was about to pluck it out but a farmer stopped me. Why can't I pluck it? It's not like it is living.
  • Oh but it is living. Looks like your confused. Let me explain it to you. Have you met MRS GREN?
  • Hahaha, no. MRS GREN's full form is Movement,Respiration,Sensitivity, Growth,Reproduction, Excretion, and Nutrition.
  • Hmm I think I get it now!
  • Oh, ok! But what are those?
  • Next comes sensitivity. It means to feel. After that is growth, to grow. Then, reproduction is to give birth or play a part in making another living thing.
  • Movement, as you know, means to move. Respiration means to take in gases, like oxygen, and convert it into energy. Basically means breathing.
  • Then what do the E and N stand for?
  • Yes I get it now.
  • Yes, I am coming to that. E is for excretion, which means to remove excess waste from your body.
  • Last but not least is Nutrition. It means food that you need to eat or consume to get energy to keep going. Get it?
  • But I have a question... how exactly is this related to that flower being a living thing?
  • OH!!! Now that I think of it, plants ARE living! Even though they don't walk around like us, they do sway in the wind. And even though they can't give birth, they can make seeds which grow into other plants! I got it now!! Thanks so much mom!
  • Haha, right. These seven things I just told you will help you identify if something is living or non-living. So now tell me, do you think a flower is living or non-living?
  • No problem!! But just remember, next time don't try to pluck a plant because they can feel too.
