- Chapter 1 begins with Moishe The Bettle writing the Jews that the Germans were coming to deport them. The Jews shrug it off and don't believe him. A few years pass, without the Germans coming. So the Jews believe that were not coming. Moishe The Bettle gets abducted and when he returns, he tell the Jews that the Germans plan to kill them.
- Chapter 4
- Chapter 2 is about The Germans came to take the Jews to a concentration center. They thought they were going to have a better life. They put 40 in the cattle cars. An old woman name Mrs. Schachter was screaming "Fire! I see fire! I see a fire!".
- Chapter 5
- Chapter 3 is about how the SS officers keep moving them from place to place. Men are sent to the left, women to the right. After the barber, all of the men are standing around, naked, finding acquaintances and old friends. They wait through a long night, during which Eliezer loses faith in God's justice and mercy.
- Chapter 4 is about when Eliezer had a gold crown. Eliezer watched his father get beat by Idek. Eliezer and his dad are assigned to work in a warehouse for electrical equipment. The SS officers drag a young Polish man out of solitary.
- Chapter 5 is about the Jews inside Buna come together for a service to celebrate Rosh Hashanah. The operation is successful and the doctor tells Eliezer he just needs to rest for two weeks. But Eliezer can't feel his leg and he's afraid it's been amputated--which would mean selection. Eliezer dad was selected on the death list.
